Transportation for the Blind and Visually Impared

Getting around safely and independently is one of the biggest challenges for people who are blind or visually impaired. At the Ogden Association of the Blind (OAB), we want to make sure our members know about the transportation options available to them.

Transportation Services & Options

Public Transportation – Many cities, including Ogden, offer accessible public transportation with audio announcements, tactile markers, and paratransit services for individuals with disabilities. UTA (Utah Transit Authority) provides paratransit services that allow those with mobility challenges to schedule rides in advance.

Rideshare Services – Apps like Uber and Lyft can be useful, but some features (such as finding the car) may be difficult for those with vision loss. Fortunately, both services allow passengers to add special instructions for drivers.

Community and Volunteer Rides – Some local organizations and churches provide free or low-cost rides for people who need assistance. OAB can help connect members with these resources.

Friends & Family Support – Having a strong support system is important. OAB encourages open conversations with loved ones about safe and reliable transportation options.

How We Can Help

At OAB, we offer guidance on using these transportation services and provide group transportation for certain activities throughout the year. If you need help finding the best transportation option for you, contact us—we’re happy to assist!
