Helping the blind in our community

Understanding Vision Loss and How We Help

Blindness and severe vision loss can affect anyone, no matter their background. When a family first faces vision loss, they often have similar concerns, such as:

1️⃣ Understanding the changes in vision – Learning what their loved one can and cannot see.

2️⃣ Knowing how to help – Finding the best ways to support a family member who is blind.

3️⃣ Adjusting emotionally – Understanding the normal feelings and changes that come with vision loss.

4️⃣ Finding resources – Learning what services are available and how to access them.

5️⃣ Learning new skills – Discovering tools and methods to stay independent in daily life.

We also invite you to consider joining the board and helping advance the cause of the association.

How OAB Supports the Blind Community

The Ogden Association of the Blind (OAB) is a non-profit organization run by both blind and sighted volunteers. We are here to help by offering social, educational, and recreational activities for our members.

👨‍🏫 Helpful Classes – We provide lessons on adjusting to blindness, available resources, and everyday skills like cooking, cleaning, and personal care. Some classes focus on independent living skills when needed. Most training happens in a group setting at our meeting place, rather than in members’ homes.

🎉 Fun Activities – Each month, we organize outings such as outdoor adventures, plays, and other enjoyable events that interest our members.

At OAB, we share real experiences and helpful advice from individuals and families who have faced vision loss. Our goal is to create a strong, supportive community where everyone can learn, connect, and enjoy life.
